{"id":1611,"date":"2010-10-25T09:21:07","date_gmt":"2010-10-25T16:21:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/?p=1611"},"modified":"2025-11-02T21:44:57","modified_gmt":"2025-11-03T04:44:57","slug":"stereotypes-and-patterns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/?p=1611","title":{"rendered":"Stereotypes and Patterns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>I passed a vehicle the other day, which was the California version of a Redneck.\u00a0 Heavily pro-gun, support America and the troops.. but it was a suburban not a pick up truck.\u00a0 And as I passed, sure enough, there was a white male in his 50&#8217;s or so.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I started wondering if he&#8217;d always been like that or did that man&#8217;s attitudes change over the years.\u00a0 He was probably born in the 60&#8217;s (or even the 50&#8217;s).\u00a0 He&#8217;s lived through the hippy years and the dancing 70&#8217;s and maybe peaked in the money-driven 80&#8217;s.\u00a0 Maybe he joined the military and got his intense pro-American influences there.\u00a0 Or maybe he didn&#8217;t.\u00a0 Maybe he spent a wasted summer stoned and drifting and is swinging to the other extreme in his elder years!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>But as maturity sets in, sometimes it sucks the fun out of a person.\u00a0 Its almost as if the stereotype of &#8220;growing up&#8221; forces them into a Republican attitude.\u00a0 His vehicle had a sticker on it that said, &#8220;YOU LIE!&#8221;\u00a0 There were other words (hopefully WHO was actually lying, so he wasn&#8217;t just blankly blaming everyone!) but they were too small to see without causing an accident!\u00a0 So if it wasn&#8217;t funny, perhaps he was serious.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>And I realized all this led me to <em>ASSUME <\/em>he was a Republican.\u00a0 Just from what he advertised.\u00a0 I was judging him by his Stereotype. I pondered that, since I&#8217;m narcissistic to look at ALL my thought processes, including my faults.\u00a0 But I theorized HE was the one advertising his beliefs so if I made assumptions WHO&#8217;S fault is THAT!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>This blanket assumption of his political beliefs made we look at the stereotypes within the two political parties.\u00a0 And I broke it down to this.\u00a0 In my opinion, (lawyer-speak for don&#8217;t sue me) one of the differences between Demo &amp; Rep was the fact one was mostly forgiving and giving while the other was mostly about punishment and keeping.\u00a0 Me, I&#8217;m pretty demo but I do have some Rep tendencies.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t mind helping someone out, but when they abuse it.. its frustrating.\u00a0 I believe in providing services to our fellow man, but admit that the system is heavily abused and difficult to police.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The real irony is that I feel the Christian religion is about loving and forgiveness, yet some of the most ardent &#8220;Bible believers&#8221; are judgmental and unforgiving about anything outside their own beliefs.\u00a0 Classic dilemma, Pro- Life AND Pro- Death Penalty&#8230; otherwise known as, we&#8217;ll wait 18 years to kill ya.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>And I think some people &#8220;grow up&#8221; into these closed minded beliefs.\u00a0 I know my brother and sister did.\u00a0 As they married and found religion they suddenly became Republicans.\u00a0 Which was ironic, since they both took advantage of social services put in place by Democrats when they were younger.\u00a0 But as they made more money, they didn&#8217;t like parting with it.\u00a0 And as they chose a religious path, they stopped tolerating others choices and voted on the basis of Moral issues.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Which cracked me up, even as it baffled me.\u00a0 Because as we ALL know..<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>there is no morality in politics!<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I passed a vehicle the other day, which was the California version of a Redneck.\u00a0 Heavily pro-gun, support America and the troops.. but it was a suburban not a pick up truck.\u00a0 And as I passed, sure enough, there was &hellip; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/?p=1611\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1611","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-just-ramblings"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1611","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=1611"}],"version-history":[{"count":8,"href":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1611\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":3251,"href":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1611\/revisions\/3251"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=1611"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=1611"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=1611"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
