{"id":1874,"date":"2011-01-31T10:18:43","date_gmt":"2011-01-31T17:18:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/?p=1874"},"modified":"2012-02-09T10:33:23","modified_gmt":"2012-02-09T17:33:23","slug":"bands-vs-house-music","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/?p=1874","title":{"rendered":"Bands vs. House Music"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>I have a great respect for bands.\u00a0 Music has always spoken to me and as I&#8217;ve changed through the years the type of music I listen to changes also.\u00a0 Since I live in Los Angeles, I do a lot of driving.\u00a0 Since I&#8217;m 2 years from 50 I listen to the radio when I drive.\u00a0 And since I&#8217;m something of a Cougar I listen to the new music: NOT talk radio, NPR, or revel in the past listening to songs I&#8217;ve heard a million times on Jack FM!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Amusingly enough, these days I enjoy going to see live music.\u00a0 In the past, concerts were fun but not necessary to my happiness.\u00a0\u00a0 Because I enjoyed my comfort waaay too much and standing for 2-3 hrs wasn&#8217;t that appealing no matter how much I loved the music. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>My brother practically had to drag me to the 3 concerts I attended in my 20&#8217;s.\u00a0 Oingo Boingo at Universal Amphitheater, 10,000 Maniacs in Irvine and B52&#8217;s, again at<\/strong><\/span><strong> Universal Amphitheater.\u00a0 All concerts I thoroughly loved and enjoyed every minute of, but that fact never managed to change my lazy attitude. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Radio was good enough for me.\u00a0 And dancing at the bars to the hits songs.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Until recently. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Within the last 3 years I&#8217;ve increased my exercise 100% (i.e. I actually GO to the gym now.\u00a0 Hey!\u00a0 That&#8217;s a 100% change!) And I&#8217;ve re-directed my life.\u00a0 These two things have given\u00a0 me the energy to enjoy going to concerts and hearing live music.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Especially bands.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Now I&#8217;ve been to a club or bar recently and heard what&#8217;s called House Music and I&#8217;ll admit its fun to dance to.\u00a0 But its not the same as a concert and not as good, in my opinion.\u00a0 Mostly due to the fact they change the song when they turn it into House Music.\u00a0 The DJ speeds it or slows it to hit a certain beat to segway smoothly into another song.\u00a0 And they often don&#8217;t play songs in their entirety.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t even get me started on the scratching shit.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>When I hear songs on the radio I often want to dance to them.\u00a0 Its frustrating when I can&#8217;t find a club or bar that&#8217;s playing my songs and even MORE so when I&#8217;m at the club and hear a song I love only to have it turned into LESS!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A band has to have a lyricist who is also able to write music.\u00a0 A band has to play instruments, sometimes several different ones.\u00a0 A band has to also know how to perform, work together AND manage\/market their careers.\u00a0 It irks me when people tout Michael Jackson.\u00a0 Did he ever play an instrument?\u00a0 How many of his songs were written by him or just purchased from Prince or someone else.\u00a0 He could sing and dance.\u00a0 Which a lot of people can do, as proven by American Idol!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A band does so much more.\u00a0 They write the original from their heart and their experience. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Coachella released their line up for 2011 and it\u00a0 looks fabulous (more on that later).\u00a0 But I kept hearing complaints that this House DJ isn&#8217;t on the line up or this or that singer wasn&#8217;t going to play.\u00a0 And I&#8217;m thinking&#8230; its about BANDS!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>And thousands agreed with me as Coachella sold out in a week.\u00a0 51,000 tickets sold in a WEEK!\u00a0 And people thought I was nuts buying layaway tix in December before the lineup was even released!\u00a0 Next year I&#8217;m going to buy 1 extra ticket and sell it on ebay, juuuust in case this happens next year.\u00a0 Tickets are going for almost double their price on ebay right now, months before the event!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The draw of music in an outdoor festival beats House music any day.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t care WHO&#8217;s &#8220;mixing&#8221;.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have a great respect for bands.\u00a0 Music has always spoken to me and as I&#8217;ve changed through the years the type of music I listen to changes also.\u00a0 Since I live in Los Angeles, I do a lot of &hellip; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/?p=1874\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1874","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-twirling-my-skirt"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1874","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=1874"}],"version-history":[{"count":6,"href":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1874\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":3220,"href":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1874\/revisions\/3220"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=1874"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=1874"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=1874"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
