{"id":3564,"date":"2012-05-07T11:20:43","date_gmt":"2012-05-07T18:20:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/?p=3564"},"modified":"2025-11-02T17:33:49","modified_gmt":"2025-11-03T00:33:49","slug":"fishing-ewww","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/?p=3564","title":{"rendered":"Fishing&#8230;. ewww!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well the boy scouts took my kids deep sea fishing.\u00a0 Translation.\u00a0 My Ex took my sons on a scouting event on the ocean for fishing.\u00a0 It was just for a day.\u00a0 And I could have used the opportunity for many fun things.<\/p>\n<p>But the point of this blog is to talk about AFTER the fishing trip.<\/p>\n<p>At about 5 pm the Ex drops Luke off from the trip and I hear Luke yell up to me, &#8220;Mom!\u00a0 Look at all the fish I caught!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Fish he caught! ?!\u00a0 And then it sinks in&#8230;. Oh, no, no, no!<\/p>\n<p>Running down I hope to force the Ex to take custody of these things and I realize instead, I need to be supportive of my son who is looking at me all proud.<\/p>\n<p>I have him put his baggie of fish in a pot, in case it leaks and I scowl at this bag.\u00a0 There doesn&#8217;t seem to be heads but there is definitely tails and skin.\u00a0 And I don&#8217;t have any idea what to do with this.\u00a0 I am immediately irritated at the Ex who is probably gleeful knowing this is causing me stress.<\/p>\n<p>See, I don&#8217;t like fishing.\u00a0 I know how to cook a few types of fish, but only one do I do well.\u00a0 And I certainly do NOT know how to gut, cut or prepare a fresh caught fish.\u00a0 I&#8217;m a &#8220;bought it at the market all ready to cook&#8221; kinda gal.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3566\" style=\"width: 425px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/?attachment_id=3566\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3566\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3566\" class=\" wp-image-3566\" title=\"fish2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/fish2-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"415\" height=\"311\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/fish2-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/fish2-150x112.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/fish2-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 415px) 100vw, 415px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3566\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The underside of the whole fish<\/p><\/div>\n<p>But I cannot just abandon my son to his task of cooking these things, so we take on the challenge of what to do with them.\u00a0 Luke&#8217;s been told to cut off the tail &amp; fins.\u00a0 He&#8217;s also told they are sand diggers.\u00a0 What I find in the bag is a bunch of whole fish without heads but with tails &amp; skin on one side.\u00a0 He tries to saw off the tails &amp; fins which creates a lovely mess but I let him do it.\u00a0\u00a0 Then we throw two in a pan and try to fry these suckers up.<\/p>\n<p>Cuz Luke&#8217;s wants to eat them.\u00a0 Of course.<\/p>\n<p>The rest I tell him we can freeze.\u00a0 And I get out two containers.\u00a0 Which we fill up and I turn to him and say, &#8220;How many did you catch?&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3567\" style=\"width: 437px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/?attachment_id=3567\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3567\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3567\" class=\" wp-image-3567\" title=\"fish\" src=\"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/fish-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"427\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/fish-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/fish-150x112.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/fish-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 427px) 100vw, 427px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3567\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Its two eyes on the TOP of its head!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;Eight,&#8221; he says proudly.\u00a0 &#8220;But Evan caught 7&#8221;\u00a0 And it is then that I really hate my Ex.\u00a0 Cuz he has included Evan&#8217;s 7 in this bag of disgustingness.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Which, ewwwwww, includes one with the head still on!\u00a0 (that one I&#8217;ve put in a baggie and taken to my mother&#8217;s house\u00a0 SHE knows how to deal with a fresh caught fish &amp; can choose to throw it away if she wants!)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Your father could have at least kept the ones Evan caught since he&#8217;s the big fisherman,&#8221; I grumble.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He caught his own,&#8221; Luke explains and I shut up to make the best of it.<\/p>\n<p>Good-heartedly he eats his fried fish plain and says later, &#8220;Mom!
