{"id":445,"date":"2009-07-22T11:57:53","date_gmt":"2009-07-22T18:57:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/?p=445"},"modified":"2025-11-08T09:18:19","modified_gmt":"2025-11-08T16:18:19","slug":"union-rep","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/?p=445","title":{"rendered":"Union Rep"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">I love Comedy Central.\u00a0 Yes, there&#8217;s a lot of silly crap on it but THAT is the place to go when your in the mood to laugh.\u00a0 And in today&#8217;s world of recordable TV cable (and I&#8217;m not talking VCRs here) it is easy to weed out what you don&#8217;t want to watch.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">And comedians work hard at their craft.\u00a0 When you watch them, be aware they tested this joke out.\u00a0 Delivered it a hundred different ways to maximize the humor and still get the point across.\u00a0 Chosen their slang, their nuance, their words and practiced it until it was so well known to them it was a &#8220;routine.&#8221;\u00a0 Well, except for the ones who do their routines drunk!\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Most are story tellers more than actual jokesters.\u00a0 Few are telling &#8220;A man walks into the bar&#8230;&#8221; jokes anymore as in the bygone days of Vaudeville.\u00a0 Today&#8217;s comedian is connecting with the audience by making fun of themselves or all of us along with him.\u00a0\u00a0 It&#8217;s their oddball view of the world they share with us in a way that makes us laugh.\u00a0 What greater gift to the masses than that.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Its what used to piss me off about Shakespeare.\u00a0 THAT was his idea of comedy?\u00a0 Don&#8217;t get me started on his idea of Romance!\u00a0 (Romeo: Yes darling I love you so much let&#8217;s die.\u00a0 My Juliet:\u00a0 excuse me what did you say!)\u00a0 And I&#8217;m aware seeing Shakespeare being performed, if you&#8217;ve been COMPLETELY educated on what the hell that old English word actually meant, can be a very different experience than when I was forced to read his shitty plays in English class.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Crap&#8230; I got sidetracked.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The point being, comedy at its best moves your mind into thinking beyond the joke to the next level.\u00a0 At least for me that&#8217;s when its best.\u00a0 When their humor spawns humor from me.\u00a0 As happened today&#8230;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The comedian was complaining about the fact once he got married he seemed to have started a new business in &#8220;shipping.&#8221;\u00a0 It was, get this&#8230; take this here&#8230; haul this\u00a0FROM the car,\u00a0TO the car, over to the neighbors.\u00a0 He complained and mumbled about how he was going to have to talk to his Union Rep about this.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">And I could just envision it.\u00a0 The Husband&#8217;s Union.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The Union meetings would most likely be held in a bar, and always just before or after the game to have a reason to be in the bar during the game but not actually disturb the game.\u00a0\u00a0 Dues =\u00a0 food at the meetings.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Oh the delicate negotiations with Management!\u00a0 Legal breaks, lunch hours&#8230; overtime!!!\u00a0\u00a0 Of course Management has an edge.\u00a0 We own the keys to the Company bedroom.\u00a0 And if you go on strike\u00a0what are you going to do.\u00a0 NOT take out the trash?\u00a0 Your not doing that anyway!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Sometimes I think that&#8217;s the subconscious reason to have children.\u00a0 They&#8217;re Management&#8217;s Scabs*<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>*slang term for replacement workers who cross the picket lines.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I love Comedy Central.\u00a0 Yes, there&#8217;s a lot of silly crap on it but THAT is the place to go when your in the mood to laugh.\u00a0 And in today&#8217;s world of recordable TV cable (and I&#8217;m not talking VCRs &hellip;
