{"id":491,"date":"2009-08-02T09:42:40","date_gmt":"2009-08-02T16:42:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/?p=491"},"modified":"2025-11-07T10:34:38","modified_gmt":"2025-11-07T17:34:38","slug":"how-i-saved-my-sanity-with-this-calendar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/?p=491","title":{"rendered":"How I saved my sanity with this calendar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Everyone talks about how kids need structure and I believe kids need it\u00a0because they&#8217;re whirling balls of chaos!\u00a0 Really its the mother who needs structure.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">When I first moved into my current house I was a new mother of my third child and a part time employee.\u00a0 I desperately needed structure.\u00a0\u00a0 And I found it in the form of the Boone 14 x 14 Magnetic Calendar.\u00a0\u00a0 Here is a link to buy one off Amazon.com\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B000UHBCH8\/ref=asc_df_B000UHBCH8863930?smid=A18POD3EAEER5F&amp;tag=dealt306820-20&amp;linkCode=asn\">http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B000UHBCH8\/ref=asc_df_B000UHBCH8863930?smid=A18POD3EAEER5F&amp;tag=dealt306820-20&amp;linkCode=asn<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">This is a narcissist secret because it makes my life easier and I then have more time for ME.\u00a0 Let me tell you how I first used it.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">We&#8217;d fixed up this house and I wanted to keep it clean.\u00a0 But between the kids and the job I didn&#8217;t have time to do it all myself NOR the money to hire help.\u00a0 This was partly because I was taught &#8220;if you&#8217;re going to do a job do it right the first time and you won&#8217;t have to do it over.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0 (Thanks Mom for pounding the nails into my perfectionist plaque!)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<div><strong><\/strong><\/div>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_493\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-493\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-493\" title=\"boone-calendar\" src=\"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/boone-calendar-300x292.jpg\" alt=\"My Boone calendar\" width=\"300\" height=\"292\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/boone-calendar-300x292.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/boone-calendar-150x146.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/boone-calendar-1024x998.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/boone-calendar.jpg 1637w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-493\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">My Boone calendar<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Yet my perfectionist gene is balanced with my lazy narcissist gene and I had to scale back my expectations of house cleanliness.\u00a0 So I took a hard look at just what had to get cleaned on a daily or weekly basis and what could stand to be cleaned only monthly.\u00a0 Obviously dishes and people had to be cleaned if not daily at least every other day.\u00a0 Laundry, toilets and floors needed to be cleaned weekly.\u00a0 But washing fingerprints off walls, floor mopping, dusting bookshelves&#8230; I could live with only doing that monthly.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">And with my Boone calendar I had 4 weeks to divide those chores into.\u00a0 (Floor day, Wall day, Dust day, Bathroom day&#8230; you know, scrub that shower, tub, etc.) I added the day the kids went to the school library so I could make sure they took those damn books back.\u00a0 (As if\u00a02 obsessive reader parents don&#8217;t have kids books in the house!)\u00a0 Then, of course, I added the days I projected to be ovulating (when horny me comes to the surface) and when I&#8217;d be menstruating (when scary me might pop out but when oral sex moves up the agenda).<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Then I added more monthly chores (mow, filing, accounting, etc.) and the weeks my girlfriend had her daughters during the summer, or days during the rest of the year.\u00a0 Hell, I kept better track than she did sometimes and I gave her one of my calendars!\u00a0 And this system has been working brilliantly for years now.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">At the end of the week I erase the transient weekly entries along with that weeks day numbers and after moving all the other weeks up I put the new week on the bottom.\u00a0 The things that never change, I never need to erase or re-enter.\u00a0 Then I check the side of the fridge where I keep clipped all those notices of upcoming events and add any to the new week if they apply.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">I haven&#8217;t had to buy an annual calendar in years!\u00a0 And luckily my own personal schedule isn&#8217;t so packed with events and phone calls that I need to always have my calendar with me.\u00a0 Because nothing is more fun than\u00a0when the kids notice I&#8217;ve put something like Christmas or better yet, Last Day\u00a0of School\u00a0on the calendar over the fridge.\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Ah, the happy sounds of more chaos.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Everyone talks about how kids need structure and I believe kids need it\u00a0because they&#8217;re whirling balls of chaos!\u00a0 Really its the mother who needs structure.
