{"id":718,"date":"2009-10-30T12:38:55","date_gmt":"2009-10-30T19:38:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/?p=718"},"modified":"2025-11-06T09:34:35","modified_gmt":"2025-11-06T16:34:35","slug":"the-search","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/?p=718","title":{"rendered":"The Search"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>I am in a somewhat single situation far too complicated to go into here.\u00a0 But suffice it to say I have been doing GNO (girls night out) with a new perspective recently.\u00a0 And I have learned some interesting things.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>First off, when I questioned a group of 22 year olds as research for Cat (novel I wrote) they gave me an odd answer to the question &#8220;Where do you meet the opposite sex?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>They said Facebook or MySpace and I was flummoxed on how you would meet people on those sites.\u00a0 I brushed it off but this last weekend when I went out to a bar I was shown the light.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I went with the new possibility of playing with a new male and walked Old Town Pasadena looking for an interesting spot.\u00a0 I ended up in a little place with good music and sat at the bar with my Chocolate Martini people watching.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>After 2 hours of that, and another drink, I realized I really couldn&#8217;t tell which of the guys in the bar were single or just were friends or free to be hit on in the several groups in the bar.\u00a0 Just when I&#8217;d spot a group of guys alone I&#8217;d realize there was a girl in their midst and you couldn&#8217;t tell which of the guys she was with, if any.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Now I understood what the 22-year olds meant when they said they met new people on Facebook.\u00a0\u00a0 This new generation doesn&#8217;t go out to meet people or pick up the opposite sex.\u00a0 They go out with their friends to socialize and drink.\u00a0 They meet people through their friend&#8217;s Facebook or MySpace pages.\u00a0 It&#8217;s like a free and safe dating service.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>You get to know a little about the person before you even try to hook up.\u00a0 And to hook up all you have to do is get your friend to\u00a0invite them\u00a0out to party with the group.\u00a0 If the chemistry clicks then you &#8220;friend&#8221; them and can ask them out solo.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It&#8217;s really a clever dating system.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Although I bet it cuts down on the sex.\u00a0 After all, it completely eliminates the One Night Stand.\u00a0 You can&#8217;t just seduce a girl you&#8217;ve &#8220;friended&#8221; and then never see her again.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ah&#8230; but will the lovely double-standard still apply?\u00a0 The one that says girls don&#8217;t like it when you treat them like meat but guys don&#8217;t mind at all.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I just may have to get a Facebook or MySpace page and &#8220;test&#8221; the theory!\u00a0 But which one do I choose&#8230; Facebook or MySpace?\u00a0 Hell, I&#8217;ll do both!\u00a0 Ready to enjoy the ride with me ladies!\u00a0 Let&#8217;s go!<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am in a somewhat single situation far too complicated to go into here.\u00a0 But suffice it to say I have been doing GNO (girls night out) with a new perspective recently.\u00a0 And I have learned some interesting things.
