Almost everyone in my family has been on television or had a minor brush with fame in one way or another.\u00a0 Not “big” fame and not always on television fame but a little bit more than the average family.\u00a0 (Well, perhaps not a COPS<\/em> family!)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The latest person brushing with fame is my sister’s husband.\u00a0 He’s a very ambitious man.\u00a0 Got\u00a0 his medical degree in Urology in the Navy and did a fellowship at Duke to learn a specific laproscopic technique.\u00a0 He left the Navy when his tour was done to take a very high income job in private practice in San Diego.\u00a0 Then was offered a teaching position at UCSD and eagerly took it.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Apparently, he was recently contacted by the San Diego Zoo.\u00a0 See, they had this dolphin they discovered had a kidney stone. (No, I have no idea HOW but she had stopped eating & interacting.) And they wanted my brother in law to use his laproscopic technique to break up the kidney stone so she could pass it.\u00a0 So off to the zoo he goes.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

They couldn’t use anesthesia on the poor dolphin so they had 4 burly guys to hold her down while she bugled in pain.\u00a0 But he saved her life and the dolphin handlers think he’s a god.\u00a0 Even though in his first try they told him he was in her vagina instead of her urethra.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

So he wrote a little paper about it.\u00a0 And he was invited to speak at another university. (This is exactly how my mother got famous in her circles.)
\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

He’s telling us all about this and we’re suitably entranced by the story and then he drops the final bomb.\u00a0 The zoo called again.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

See… they got this whale….
