{"id":1867,"date":"2011-01-21T10:05:43","date_gmt":"2011-01-21T17:05:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/?p=1867"},"modified":"2025-11-02T21:21:24","modified_gmt":"2025-11-03T04:21:24","slug":"good-tips-for-the-beauty-newbie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.heatherbarton.com\/?p=1867","title":{"rendered":"Good Tips for the beauty newbie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>I found an interesting article in a beauty magazine.\u00a0 (Hey.. it was accidentally delivered&#8230; to my mother&#8230; I SWEAR!)\u00a0\u00a0 In any case, it answered at least ONE question I&#8217;d been pondering.\u00a0 And I realized some of the info was worth passing along.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>TIPPING<\/em>:\u00a0 Apparently, you&#8217;re supposed to tip EVERYONE who you come in contact with, <em>except the owners<\/em> (oh, gee thank god for THAT\u00a0 one), at a high end beauty shop.\u00a0 Which is why I go to a low end shop where there IS no coat check, separate shampoo person, &amp; assistant who blow dries.\u00a0 That&#8217;s all done by the same person at my shop.. so I just tip her 20%.\u00a0 Done deal. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Although it did state that the average tip for a manicure is $5.00 even if you&#8217;re just getting a $10 quickie at the local mall.\u00a0 Makes it worthwhile to just get the Mani\/Pedi deal if you&#8217;re going to spend $15.00 anyway!\u00a0 Cuz, yes, if I don&#8217;t do it myself (or have Sex God do it) then I go to the local mall for my mani\/pedi.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>HAIR STYLISTS<\/em>:\u00a0 Go with a clear idea of what you want seems redundant.\u00a0 We all THINK we know, but get all vague and kinda hopeful the stylist will pull a <em>Next Top Model<\/em> make-over suggestion.\u00a0\u00a0 So bring in a magazine picture.\u00a0 <em>Better yet, bring in a pix you have of a style you&#8217;ve worn that you like! <\/em> And if you don&#8217;t like the job they do, tell them before you leave to give them a chance to fix it.\u00a0 Hopefully they won&#8217;t make it worse!\u00a0 Not bad advice.\u00a0 But remember also, if you can only afford to cut your hair 3-4 times a year tell your stylist so they can give you a low-maintenance cut. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>FACIALS:<\/em> <em>I loved this one, made me giggle<\/em>.\u00a0 The first thing right off they tell you to be honest if you are using any chemicals like Retin A on your face.\u00a0 THEN they tell you to also STOP using Retin A 3 days before a peel or laser treatment and a week before facial waxing.\u00a0 I&#8217;m thinking.. if you&#8217;re using BOTH are you a little obsessed?
