I know it seems as if all my blog posts have descended into music
festival and concert posts. But life has been so busy that I don’t have the time to post daily (like in the beginning…omg! did I post a lot) or even weekly! I’m lucky it I get something posted monthly and so I try to catch up on the interesting things happening chronologically! I promise I’ll go back to sex posts! Eventually….maybe. lol
Anyway. With the fun Sex God and I had at Bottlerock 2015 we were thoroughly jazzed for 2016. And this time we brought friends! Late 2015 I did a season working for Costco and met a Latina soul sister. We clicked on ideals and attitude and became friends pretty instantly. Of course, she’s fun to be around so I have to fight for getting together time, lol, but when I told her about Bottlerock she was in! And Sex God convinced his bf to join us.
Now before your dirty minds go anywhere… lol… while Glo is a slight Latina version of me we were both past our girl experimentation phase so while we shared a bed in the hotel room there was no “action”. And the same for Sex God and his bf (remember we’re Poly), but probably because us girls were in the other bed… oh, and we provided a place for a FB friend & her co-workers to crash on the pullout couch & floor. They were working the festival and after the festival worked us, so everybody just SLEPT!
I’d managed a room at the same place as last time but only for Friday & Saturday so we

Sex God & Sheila (FB)
had to get up at 4am Friday, drive 6 hours, rush an early check in and head to the venue. Sex God & Guy drove from their job in Palm Springs and Glo drove me & we talked the entire time! I got her life story and WOW…she’s done things still on my bucket list! Really it was 2 things made this year fun….showing around Glo & Guy and the band Nothing But Thieves. Sex God and I randomly do our research on who’s playing and usually go pretty prepared on who we want to see… but after Sex God listened and watched the videos for Nothing But Thieves (a band playing the festival) he realized this was a baby band that is going to go far. It only took 2 videos for me to agree, download the album and fall head over heels into fandom on this band. I immediately turned Glo onto them and now we’re sisters in fandom also haha!

Nothing But Thieves
NBT was playing that first day so we bounced around from section to section just enjoying the weather, the ganja, the food & drink and music. I hadn’t fixed my heel-spurs at that point in my life so I was doing a lot of limping and sitting and self medicating. We saw a little of Kaleo and Andy Grammer and Michael Franti. We popped into Cold War Kids but quickly settled to wait for Nothing But Thieves. One of the best parts of bringing friends was if Sex God wanted to do something I didn’t, we didn’t need to negotiate!
Sadly NBT had sound problems but they were still enjoyable. Although I regret not braving the sun’s heat and getting closer to the stage as soon as I realized the sound problems. Conor Mason’s voice is absolutely beautiful. At one point he thanked the crowd for coming to see them and said, “You do know that Lenny Kravitz is playing right over there.” I’ll admit that was a hard choice! lol… but fandom said, tough luck Lenny!
After that Glo and I just had a nice dinner in the food court while Guy dragged Sex God to see Stevie Wonder. They worked their way deep into the crowd while Glo and I sat in the food area and watched him on the big screen. By then we were tired having got up so early and a little cold so we texted the boys that we’d meet them at the car. The walk to the Target parking lot wasn’t that far but we got hungry and the giggles (gee wonder why) so we went in search of food. [I’ll try to insert THAT audio soon.]
Day Two was more relaxed. 1. because I’d seen who I was excited to see and 2. because I got sleep! lol We saw The Struts which was fun and really loved Chicano Batman. Glo kept yelling, “These are my peeps” then Guy swing danced her. In one pass she shouted at me “help!” Guy is very good at swing dancing and can do it with ANY partner no matter how bad they are, but boy, do you feel out of control when he does! Plus he really
needs tons of room to do it (I’ve seen him do it with a girl at a bar & I swore he was going to swing her head smack into a wall abutment!) and he didn’t have it at the festival. We skipped Death Cab for Cutie, when I saw them at the KROQ Wienie Roast they were disappointing, so we saw some Ziggy Marley, Iration and then popped into Florence at the Machine. I REALLY wanted to stay for that, but it was standing room at the back only by then and my feet weren’t having any of it. I think Guy had taken his car and left early that day, so Sex God was outvoted by Glo (who’d see Florence 4 times already) and I.
Day Three we saw some Misterwives, X Ambassadors, Andrew McMahon, The Lumineers, Coleman Hell and ended the night with Rodrigo Y Gabriela. Sex God & Guy stayed for Red Hot Chili Peppers. I will admit, my aching feet made me something of a wet blanket at that whole festival. If I’d know I could have easily fixed the two heel spurs with cortisone shots I would have done it 15 years ago when they were first diagnosed. Another reason to love my current doctor!
