The last 3 New Years Eve events were fun but not fun. Last year I was
in a wheel chair so had to cancel my NYE party. The 2 years before that, I over imbibed and was sick at the party! So when a couple of my fave friends bought tickets to this rave, I was so envious I talked Sex God into going and bought tickets. Then I added true joy to it with my bestie ALSO going with us! We got the days off work, coordinated who is driving, got 6 of us sharing a hotel room (cuz the venue is 2 hrs away!) and bought myself a onesie!!
We took 2 cars and managed to hit the road by 1:00 pm! We screeched into the hotel to check in by 3 as there was a penalty if we didn’t check in by 4 only to find a large line and one overworked clerk trying to get ALL these ravers checked in! An hour of preparing and pre-partying and we were ready for our Lyft to get to the Venue by 5!! Ironically, the traffic had our Lyft driver swing near the drop off point and say, “Here’s where I leave you.” (But of course, pre-party…so we didn’t care!)
This time, I was determined NOT to cross fade and tried instead to repeat a psychedelic version the likes of my Vegas trip, for my first true rave with experienced ravers. And for the most part was very successful! There were 4 stages with different DJ’s and different types of music playing. I enjoyed walking more than standing/dancing which kind of drove my frie
nds crazy as they preferred sticking to ONE place and immersing themselves in the sites and sounds. I blame this solely on my old feet! (If I ever do this again, I think I would stick to the indoor venue that had an outside area with benches! I think that was my favorite place as it gave me moments to rest my bones without taking me out of the music.)
Several times we 3 oldsters got separated from the 3 younguns. I absolutely could NOT stand being deep in the crowd as I was constantly jostled and overly aware of my knee. (I sadly still get twinges and I can’t shake the fear I’ll damage my knee dancing at events.) By New Years I kept moving back until we were closer to a small knoll and sitting. And it was 40 degrees!! I’m sooooo thankful I wore pants under my onesie and only wish I had worn more than a tank top! But I gotta say, FLEECE is the way to go for events where you need to stay warm!
By 1 am I was ready to leave. And I saw many younger people heading for the exit.
Sex God was the only one in our group NOT in a onesie so he was pretty chilled by then, so we decided to make our way toward the Lyft pick up point. Halfway there we began to get texts from the younguns so we waited for them to catch up to us. Once together we made it to the pick up point only to wait with HUNDREDS other trying to get transportation. It was soooo poorly organized that those waiting for Lyfts never connected with the Lyfts waiting for them. We tried for 30-45 minutes before admitting defeat and began walking to the hotel. I swear it took HOURS! We finally made it to the hotel by 4 am…. exhausted, sober and starving! We all simply took to our beds and slept!
Free breakfast with the room was taken advantage of by Sex God, my bestie & 1 of the younguns with only 15 minutes left to it. An hour later we all got up, packed and found a Denny’s on the way home to fill any empty bellies.
Of all the New Year’s Eve… I do think I enjoyed that celebration pretty much! Except trying to use a porta pottie…. in a onesie…. in a compromised mental state….without losing phone. I’m contemplating adult diapers next time…Ha!
